Immediately After the Surgery
After your surgery is finished, your doctor will stitch up the incision and wrap your midsection in sterile bandages. If needed, your surgeon will insert a small tube into the incision to allow any excess fluid or blood to drain from the area.
Your bed will be set to a reclined position with your knees raised to ensure your comfort and promote healing. A nurse or other support staff member will help you walk around as needed, as you won’t be able to do it on your own.
When You’re Home After Surgery
During the first few days, and in the earliest days following your surgery that you will experience the most discomfort. Your doctor will likely prescribe you something to help with the pain, so be sure to take it as directed and as needed. After a few days, your surgeon will remove any drain tubes you have in place.
