What Is the Recovery Time for a Breast Lift

Although it is a fairly common procedure, a breast lift is still major surgery, so there will be a recovery period involved. Here’s what you can expect from the breast lift recovery time and process.

Post Breast Lift Surgery

Immediately after the surgery, when you first wake from the anesthesia, you’ll be wearing a surgical support bra, and your breasts will be bandaged. Your doctor may also insert small tubes into your incisions to drain any excess blood and fluid. Your surgeon will likely remove these tubes after a couple of days.

Take any pain relievers prescribed by your doctor as needed to manage your discomfort in the early days. If you prefer over-the-counter or alternative pain relief methods, be sure to check with your doctor in advance before taking any medication to prevent complications.

Breast Lift Weeks Post Op

After the first few days, you can switch to a soft, supportive bra, like a sports bra. You may experience some swelling and discomfort around the incision sites, but this should subside over the weeks that follow. During this time, try to take it easy and avoid any strenuous activity, including housework, exercise and sexual activity. Your surgeon will let you know when it is safe to resume your normal activities.

Depending on the type of stitches your doctor used to close up the incisions, you may need to return to have your stitches removed after about two weeks, or they may dissolve and fall out on their own.

Breast Lift Recovery Week by Week

Your breasts will continue to shift and settle for a few months following your breast lift surgery, so allow time for this to happen before evaluating the final results. You may need to wear a bra in a smaller cup size from now on, as the excess skin around your breasts has been removed, making them smaller and firmer.

Incision Care and Healing

Take care to protect your incisions until they have fully healed, including keeping them out of the sun. Silicone tape or gel can help in the healing process but check with your doctor before applying any treatments.
