What is Candela Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal using the Candela GentleLASE uses therapeutic heat energy with high intensity light and penetrates deep to target and destroy hair follicles. It is considered to be a quick and relatively painless way to effectively reduce body hair. Many people grow tired of regular shaving and/or waxing and want a longer-term solution that will eliminate the need for constant upkeep. The Candela GentleLASE hair removal treatment can provide that.
Laser Hair Removal Procedure
The laser hair removal procedure is a non-surgical treatment, meaning it can be performed in an exam room. We will apply a numbing cream to the area to help to manage any discomfort. Additionally, the Candela laser also applies a cooling burst to help prevent any pain during the procedure.
Using the laser, Dr. Streitmann will target the hair follicles and the blood supply that nourishes the hair. The result is a highly effective permanent hair reduction in the area. Although there can be some redness and minor soreness in the treatment area, the procedure does not require any downtime. You can resume work and all normal activities on the same day as your treatment.
Depending on the specifics of your situation, several treatments may be necessary for long-term results. During your consultation, Dr. Streitmann will estimate the number of treatments that will be needed.
Laser Hair Removal Recovery
There is no recovery time necessary for the Candela GentleLASE treatment. Normal activities can be resumed on the same day as the treatment. There may be redness in the area for a few hours after the treatment; however, this should quickly subside.
Patients should avoid direct sun and heat exposure for two weeks after the treatment. Additionally, they should not wax, pluck or bleach hairs in the area for four to six weeks. We will provide you will post-treatment instructions during your appointment at our Houston, Texas office.
Is Candela Laser Treatment Less Painful?
Most patients experience little to no pain during their treatment with the Candela GentleLASE. This device lives up to its name. Its unique Dynamic Cooling Device helps to cool the upper layers of the skin before the laser pulse. Any pain or discomfort can be easily managed.
How Many Laser Treatments Will I Need?
Each patient has a slightly different need due to skin types. Some treatments require only one session, whereas others need several. During your initial consultation, Dr. Streitmann will discuss what you hope to achieve and estimate the number of sessions that will be necessary, although the actual number can vary on occasion. After every treatment session, you can expect to see noticeable results.
Candela Laser Sunspot Removal
The Candela GentleLASE can also be used to treat sunspots, pigmented lesions and other skin pigmentation issues. Like hair removal, this is done by targeting the area with a laser pulse. Typically, dark skin pigmentation issues respond best to a high intensity light long-wavelength laser such as the GentleLASE. During your consultation, Dr. Streitmann will determine whether this is likely to be an effective treatment for you.
Typically, the treatment process is quick and causes little to no pain. You can go back to work immediately and resume normal activities. We will provide instructions about caring for the treatment area after your session. Laser sunspot removal may require multiple sessions depending on the size and condition of the area.
