If you have concerns about your facial lines and have been researching options for correction, you may have come across Xeomin® injections as a solution. Although Xeomin® is not as much of a household name as other injections for wrinkles and fine lines, there are many benefits to using this product before trying more invasive methods of smoothing the skin. Before you decide if Xeomin® injections are right for you, learn more about how the product works and what results to expect after the process is complete.

Whenever you’re squinting, frowning, or concentrating, the muscles between your eyebrows start to contract, which causes the skin to fold into frown lines – gradually worsening over time as your skin loses elasticity during the aging process; but fortunately, there’s a simple solution!

Michael J. Streitmann, M.D., a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, offers XEOMIN® in Houston, TX, a prescription medication used to temporarily improve the appearance of frown lines between the eyebrows. What is Xeomin®?

Xeomin® is a neurotoxin that has been gaining in popularity as an alternative to Botox injections. The product is FDA-approved for the treatment of forehead wrinkles, fine lines, frown lines, lines around the eyes, and other areas of concern. Since Xeomin® does not contain any additives, it is a more pure form of neurotoxin. Xeomin® is not encased with a protein coating, which means it is an option for clients who are unable to continue with Botox injections due to a buildup of immunity to the protein encasement.

Xeomin® is a prescription medication that’s injected for intramuscular use to improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. The active ingredient, known as botulinum toxin type A, works to prevent muscle fibers from contracting; reducing frown lines while ensuring:

Xeomin® is a good choice for adults who have concerns about fine lines and wrinkles of the face, including frown lines, glabellar lines, crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, and other problem areas. Most clients are good candidates for Xeomin®, but those who are pregnant or nursing, have had reactions to other neurotoxin injections, have a disease of the nerves or muscles, or have an active skin infection in the intended treatment area may not be able to use Xeomin® injections. It is important to discuss your health history and current conditions with your provider before proceeding with treatment.

Xeomin® can be used for the majority of the same uses as other popular neurotoxins on the market. As an FDA-approved tool, this injectable can be administered to several different areas during the same session. Xeomin® reduces the look of wrinkles in the forehead, including the 1s and 11s that are notorious for being some of the first signs of aging. The injections can also be used for areas around the eyes, such as crow’s feet and uneven eyebrows. Marionette lines, frown lines, jowls, chin creases, and neck bands can also be improved using Xeomin®, and many clients select this product specifically to treat these areas.

It is normal to feel nervous about the process if you have never received a cosmetic injectible before. There are several steps to the process, so knowing what to expect can help ease any worries you may have.

When you schedule a Xeomin® consultation with your provider, all steps in the process are explained in detail so you know what to expect. The consultation also includes discussing your concerns and goals for treatment. During your first meeting, your provider may ask questions about your health history that are relevant to the treatment to make sure you are a good candidate for the injections. Some providers take before pictures at this time and use technology to show the expected treatment results. Before you leave your initial consultation, you should feel sure of your decision and know what to expect when you arrive for your scheduled procedure.

When you arrive for your procedure, everything previously discussed is reviewed so you can be confident with the process. The provider cleans the area and provides topical numbing cream if desired. Without numbing cream, most clients report a pain factor of one on a scale of one to five, with one being the least amount of pain. The Xeomin® is injected into pre-determined locations using a small-gauge needle. The entire treatment typically takes between 15 and 20 minutes, depending on the number of injections and the treatment area.

Xeomin® is a neurotoxin that works similar to the neurotoxin found in Botox and other cosmetic injectables. Neurotoxins relax the muscles in the treatment area, preventing the skin from wrinkling as it would when the muscles can contract normally. In the short term, this muscle relaxation allows the wrinkles to flatten out. With repeated, long-term use, you may be able to go longer between treatments as your skin learns to remodel in this relaxed state.

Downtime after your procedure is minimal, and you can go back to your normal routine immediately after injections. Some clients can expect some bruising, redness, and swelling around the treatment sites. Due to the possibility of bruising, most providers recommend scheduling injections at least two weeks before a special event.

The full effects of Xeomin® are noticeable between five and seven days after injection. You can expect results to last around three-to-four months, but some clients enjoy results for longer. As the effects wear off, repeated treatments are necessary to maintain results.
